Rigid Cystoscopy and bladder biopsy with diathermyis an endoscopic procedure performed under general anaesthetic as a day case. It is used to obtain tissue samples from the bladder lining for diagnostic purposes, typically following abnormal findings during flexible cystoscopy. Where indicated, minor lesions may be treated or cauterised using diathermy during the same procedure.
All biopsy samples are sent forhistological analysisto confirm or exclude conditions such as inflammation, carcinoma in situ, or malignancy.
Afollow-up clinic appointmentis arranged to discuss the findings and any histology results. Most patients resume normal activities within1–2 weeks. Mild urinary symptoms such as stinging, urgency, or blood in the urine are common for a few days and usually self-limiting.
